On Impatience

Jul28

For those days when your brain is a swirling mess of crazy/wonderful/colourful/beautiful ideas you can't seem to get out right or fast enough....

And then go back to whatever it is you were working on (like wondering where the hell  you're going with this robot theme) knowing it'll all come out the way it's supposed to when it's supposed to.

May Be

May14

I was thinking...Have you ever had an idea, a genius idea, a brain exploding, heart-palpitatingly good idea...and then talked yourself out of it?
Have you ever seen/heard/imagined something and thought, "Yeah! I need to do that!" and then didn't do it?
Have you ever watched someone once-in-a-lifetime-soulmate-AWESOME walk by and think, I should totally smile/say Hi!/awkward face wink (not recommended and not effective guaranteed) at that person and then...well, didn't?
Did you then think about what  would have happened if you had? Imagined how much better  things would be for you right now if you had taken that guitar lesson a hundred years ago, stalked that person on the metro or patented that revolutionary trinket?
Well I do. Maybe it's the month of May, and the act of cleaning crap out of closets I haven't wanted to look at for awhile invokes this type of nostalgia. Or maybe it's just a regular old day around 7:53 pm who knows...
But no matter how you coulda-shoulda-woulda the shit out of these scenarios, I think we can all agree that the unknown Maybe is the best part of the whole exercise. Congrats! Whether you like it or not, you dodged a metaphorical bullet and this moment is your best case scenario even if that's not overly apparent yet and even if you  mind-fucked romanticized the alternative outcome your fantasy world.
So, I invite you to take a minute...or 38, and contemplate the things you followed through with instead (intentionally or by accident all the same to me!), the people and adventures you said yes to, and the great things that have come from those decisions (don't knock the small stuff either!). *

I've lined-up a random mix of music for your musings and hope you enjoy!
(Head over to soundcloud for the track list if you're so inclined by clicking on the player!)

*p.s.. I'm not advocating for not pursuing things you want in your life. I'm just saying don't live in regret over what you've let go...like, you might have quit the piano lessons at five anyways because the teacher was smelly and not become an internationally renowned concert pianist...like the guy you crossed in line at the cafeteria wearing the blue shirt was not, nor will ever be a doctor...or a lawyer...you get where I'm going with this right.
p.p.s...Keep in mind that even if the things you did choose didn't work out the way you  hoped, there's an important lesson in every experience that needed learning (that you may have picked-up just as easily  from watching He's Just Not That Into You or Season 2 episode 12 of Myth Busters but anyways...).

April Flowers

Apr10

Well, hello spring! Where have you been? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been counting the minutes to being able to pull out the bare legs and open-toes, to have the extra five in the morning (normally dedicated to removing snow from the car), and to open the windows to let that fresh warm-ish, kinda dirt-smelling air in (you know what I mean right?)!

If there's anything I know about spring it's two things:
1)There's no better time to get rid of old shit . And, there is not one scenario that that doesn't apply to - seriously. Think that one through. So get yourself on a metaphorical or literal colonic and purge the dead weight.
2)This side of our tilted planet is entering it's cycle of growth and expansion. Now's the time to grab the bull by the horns and open yourself up new everything - opinions, habits, people, experiences, you name it. Do it!

So with that in mind, I leave you with a new set for inspiration! Enjoy!

There's some Atu on there, some new Eric Lau, Bonobo featuring Erika Badu, Dandy Teru featuring Rita J (!!! exclamation mark), Waahli (from Nomadic Massive out of Montreal),  snippets from a Amy Winehouse tribute (heads-up free download), Flume, a different take on Kendrick Lamar's Swimming Pool, more Kaytranada (the south-shore boy!) and Souleance. All links to artist info are in soundcloud .

Good Old Days

Mar26

Let's have ice cream and sit on the park bench

Day dream about sunny Saturdays, play remember when

Let nostalgia take us to places we'd like to go again

Travel back to a time we can only imagine.

Remember passing notes in home room

Choose the right box, "yes" or "no", let me know soon

Going steady and holding hands at noon

Come what may, summer love starts in June.

Remember running home and waiting for the phone to ring

Killing time with the quadratic formula while Lenny sings,

"It ain't over until it's over"

At least not until you call and tell me it's ok to come over.

Let's go back to, “What chya up to?”, "Nothing".

"Yeah, me too. Nothing".

Those were the good old days, the good old days

The good olds days Let's go back again.

I had braces and you always wore that sweatshirt

This was back before I knew about boys or how to flirt

We drove our parents berserk

Beserk isn't even a word anymore, hey but it works.

Let's go back to, days running into nights

When chasing away sleep was the only fight

Back to when falling in love was the only place to go

And, well getting home at five to watch the Cosby Show.

Cold days in with grilled cheese and tomato soup

When it was all about us and we never noticed the view

We would be friends forever cause I'd made you a bracelet

Didn't have care when we were together, let's face it.

That summer you went away, you still found me with your letters

Do people still do that? Hell whatever.

Those were the good old days, the good old days

The good olds days Let's go back again.

Do you remember where we thought we would be

All the things we'd kick off the bucket list by thirty-three

Like Micheal J we're back to the future now

Bet my younger self would be disappointed that things didn't pan out.

Would probably tell me to brace for stormy weather

To spend more time with the grandparents, there's nothing better

We were going to be beautiful rich and clever

But I'd be happy to know we'll still be sitting on this bench together

Reminiscing about sharing earphones on the school bus

Heads bobbing to “Just The Two Of Us”

About cassette tapes and shooting ducks on Nintendo

Are you with me? Come on. Let's go!

Those were the good old days, the good old days

The good olds days Let's go back again.

Happy

Mar13

Stress is a bitch. And not just any bitch. Stress is a sneaky bitch (I may have mentioned this before...). One minute you're feeling one with zen and the next you're like BLAM! Stress! What the....?

Sure, she gave you some warnings - the accelarated heart rate, the clenched jaw muscles, maybe even a bit of a foot fidget but did you notice? Hell no! You were in reaction mode, fighting and flighting around...at least until the joyful end of the stress inducing situation or all systems shut down. Whatever comes first.

The secret is making stress your bitch. Now if this was easy, the world wouldn't need yogis or meditation or lithium or therapists to help find that happy place. For some, present company included,  stress management is right up there with doing taxes, cleaning the oven and organic chemistry but there is hope! So, not being any kind of expert on this topic, other than having a long  relationship with that bitch Stress, I won't leave you with any kind of official way to diagnose an inflammation of the Stress or provide you with a recognized  treatment plan but I will leave you with some happy therapy. You're welcome.

Happy therapy #1 is brought to you 8thW1.

Happy therapy #2 brought to you by C2C.

Enjoy!
